HA11 Task 7

                                              https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WWTNMKD

I created this survey that asked the main questions that would help me better determine how to improve, what people like about my work and what they dont like etc.

The questions I asked where:

Here are the separate responses I got. Some of the answers were short but some answers were detailed and really did help me.

Q1: What are your first impressions of the environment?
Really cool
Q2: Do you think this city level could be used in a game?
Yes
Q3: Does the final product go well with the planning done in the previous tasks?
Its 90% on point. The 10% was just the little changes like the football pitch being replaced by a building? Still I liked it.
Q4: What do do like about the work?
I like the fact it had music to it. The other environments I saw never had music. I also like the texture quality.
Q5: How do you think I could improve? Any suggestions for a future environment that I create? What are your criticisms if any.
I would suggest trying to be 100% on a plan. Although you were extremely close to that, you still had just tiny things that were not added or replaced.

This person liked the environment, the detail and the music put in the video. He/She however made a remark about the work being '90% on point'. Reading further into that comment, it tells me that for future work I should try to make the outcome 100% what it is was when the planning was done.

Q1: What are your first impressions of the environment?
I found it really interesting
Q2: Do you think this city level could be used in a game?
Yeah I'd see it in a really cool Wow Custom Map
Q3: Does the final product go well with the planning done in the previous tasks?
I saw very slight changes on the finished map. VERY small details that I noticed in the ideas generation that was replaced or wasnt there in the final map.
Q4: What do do like about the work?
I really like the look and feel of it. The music also goes well with the setting!
Q5: How do you think I could improve? Any suggestions for a future environment that I create? What are your criticisms if any.
You should put this map on Zommods.com/ !! I'd llove to see this map in a zombie game.

This person was able to relate the map I made with a game he/she already played. 'Wow' is a Call of Duty game short for World at war'. Although this person spelled it 'Wow' instead of 'Waw' I still understood they meant this game because they talked about a custom map and they linked a website called Zommods which after visiting, I learnt its a World At War Zombie Modding site.  This person seems happy with my work and the final product and they also complimented the music that went with the setting. They, like another reviewer talked about 'Very small' details that had changed past the planning stage. These were things like an extra building or removing a building. In the future I should try and stay 100% true to the plan.

Q1: What are your first impressions of the environment?
Great
Q2: Do you think this city level could be used in a game?
Yes
Q3: Does the final product go well with the planning done in the previous tasks?
Yes
Q4: What do do like about the work?
All of it
Q5: How do you think I could improve? Any suggestions for a future environment that I create? What are your criticisms if any.
More to look at

This reviewer liked the work presented and did not give much feedback. He/She did say that the way I could improve for next time was to give the viewers more to look at. This means I should expand the size of the map for any future projects and add more detail.

HA11 Task 5

Having done the dirty work in Modeller, I now came over to Layout in a clean scene with the city objects all loaded up.

I positioned the camera and started to add key frames (Disabled Auto Key frame and re-did the first frame just for the peace of mind)

I used different camera views, this a bird eye view where I was moving the camera across the street.

I keep going in and out of perspective view and camera view to ensure the footage is capturing exactly what I want it to.

The fly through is complete and I bring the camera back to the starting place (Street) and finish the last key frame.

I checked the settings and started rendering out the animation.

Here I tweaked the video's speed/duration a little and added some music to the footage.

HA11 Task 4

I started putting textures on the models at this stage. The texture on the model above was only a test to ensure all is working as it should.

I replaced the test texture with the proper one, I started texturing other buildings around it.

While finding textures, I had to look for one that was big enough for a tall building. This is an experiment using a texture that I thought may look good. It didnt!

After the texturing was done, I would start cloning a few buildings so they're in the background when I record the fly through.

Textures done, City Scene ready. I cloned the buildings and put them outside of the playable area as seen in the picture above.

HA11 Task 3

Digital sketch of the city

I started working on the city, I created the base of a building then went on the walls.

I started making more buildings and made sure that their sizes are correct compared to other buildings and other props like light posts.

Further in detail, I have now created the light posts with the finished details on them and I have nearly done making all the buildings.

Here I started to texture the buildings, starting from one of the houses.

HA11 Task 2

I designed the city entirely on there and I had a very clear idea of how I wanted everything to look like

Going further in detail now, here I plan one of the buildings and how I will be modelling it.

Having done the calculations I estimated there would be 19 street lamps in this city. The draw made above this is what I used to base my models of the light post.

HA11 Task 1

Choose one of the following settings:

Medieval settlement
Space station
Underwater settlement

Remember that you are trying to generate thoroughly thought-through ideas for a 3D environment showing creativity and flair and working independently to professional expectations.

To conduct my research I first decided on the base of my environment.  I chose to create a post apocalyptic setting. Before I went on to create rough sketches, plans, ideas etc of my own city, I had searched for cities online. Top views of normal cities, maps, post apocalyptic sets and other broken down cities.

I already had an idea in my mind as to how my environment will look like and how I want to model the street and the buildings so instead of searching something like 'city' I knew exactly what to look for.

I searched ''City bock''

A bird eye view of a city. It is displayed as a map and in black and white it inspires and helps me to understand what to do when I go on to create my own layout of the environment.

Although this does not directly help my work, I found it useful because it gave me the idea to create the whole city / environment and then proceed to making textures.

The street style in this picture made me think about how it I could design a little city area.
Going in further in the previous picture, this one relates to it and carries the idea on of a city and the things I could add. This picture in particular made me thinking about how I can go down to the road and add the light posts.
